Raleighfalls and Voltzberg are located in the South-West of Suriname at the Upper-Coppename River, and are part of the Central Surinamese Nature reserve, which consists of 1.6 miljon acres of tropical rainforest. This area offers a great variety of flora and fauna. Because of this area is protected, there is a larger chance op encountering wild life. This tour is especially developed for the nature lovers and hikers. It starts with an adventures route on a bauxite road towards the traditional Marron village, Witagron, where the Kwinti tribe lives. They speak their own Creole language that is mostly based on English, influenced by French and other languages. From Witagron we go by boat on the Coppenameriver towards Fungu Island, where we will be accommodated for the rest of the tour. There is both hammock and bed accommodation. The option exists to go by airplane from Paramaribo towards Fungu Island.
From Fungu Island we will explore the area and make a long and exhausting hike towards the 240 m high Voltzberg. A local guide will tell us all about the trees and plants we pass, as well as spot wild life. When we reach the top of the mountain, after a firm climb, we can enjoy the breathtaking view over the tropical rainforest (360°). On the way back we can enjoy a massage or a refreshing swim in the Anjoemara waterfall. A delicious meal will be waiting for us, when returning to Fungu Island. Another day we will go to the impressive Ralleighfalls, (the offspring of the Coppename River) which takes a short hike. There will be free time to relax in a hammock or in the river. At night the sky is covered with stars, which you can enjoy on top of the rocks next to the ‘sula’. The sound of the water and the rainforest makes the experience unforgettable.
